Wales v Scotland International at The Recreation Ground, Caersws, Powys on 28th July 2007

20th Anniversary of the last Quoits International in Caersws

Huge renovation project being undertaken.  Some of the new flats have a fabulous view over the Severn Valley.

Caersws Village Hall in the centre of the village.  The old quoits site was right next door.

Many will recognise this friendly pub where many a song has been sung!

Caersws station - one of only four still in operation on the Cambrian Coast Line between Shrewsbury and Aberystwyth, the others being Welshpool, Newtown and Machynlleth.

The Unicorn Hotel under new management April 2008.

Sleepy River Severn - looking from the hump-back road bridge, east towards the railway bridge.  During winter flooding, the water almost touches the bridge itself which sometimes has to be closed.  On the left of the picture, there is a small site suitable for caravans or camping.  Bookings can be made by contacting The Unicorn Hotel.

For those thinking of bringing vehicles, the bridge is VERY low and it's best to go over rather than under the railwy.

The Recreation Ground is home of Caersws Football Club.

The site as of 10th September 2006.

Caersws landmark bridge built circa 1821, carries the main A470 trunk road between Cardiff S Wales and Conwy N Wales.

The signpost to Caersws FC also points the way to the quoits.

Not much happening on the Severn.

A hair cut or a prayer - we can cater for both.

The Buck Hotel - one of the older buildings of the village.

Local butcher Alun W Owen on The Cross

Harrison's Fish & Chip Shop opposite the SPAR

The SPAR - recently refurbished and bang in the centre of the village

Entrance to the old quoits site.  The farthest building is the Village Club from where matches could be watched in comfort.

The teams of 1987,  before the quoits moved to The Recreation Ground.  Notice the window behind the score-board and compare it to the window on the ground floor left-hand-side of the building in the photo above it.  On the first floor roof, Des and Jill Pryce's Old English Sheepdog used to when they were licensees of the club, just as he did when they were at the Red Lion see below.

See - I wasn't joking.
